The Village of Libertyville began construction of Phase 1 of the Highlands Subdivision Flood Reduction Project on August 1. Phase 1 includes construction of a flood control storage basin in Nicholas- Dowden Park on the south side of Crane Boulevard. The park will be lowered 6-9 feet to provide flood control storage for the surrounding area, reducing flooding through the subdivision.
An open house was held on Thursday, July 14th at the Village Hall to discuss the projects in more detail. Stabilization of the park will end in November 2022 with final park amenities and seeding completed by April 30th, 2023. The work also includes restored softball fields, a concession area, an ice rink, batting cages, and pathways.
