Tree City

Tree City USA Award

The Village has once again been named a Tree City USA for 2018, a distinction it has enjoyed since 1994. Tree City USA, a national recognition program that began in 1976 is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters. Municipalities must apply for the award and meet four fundamental standards to be considered.

As a Tree City USA community residents can enjoy the knowledge that they have a greener and healthier community!

Arbor Day Planting

On Friday, April 26 the Village celebrated Arbor Day by planting an American hornbeam outside of Village Hall on Cook Avenue. The American hornbeam is a native tree in the Chicago area, making it useful for shady landscapes and naturalized or woodland gardens. New leaves are reddish-purple and change to dark green, then turn yellow to orange-red in the fall.

Comprehensive Plan Community Speak Out

On May 9 from 3:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. a community speak out will be held at the Libertyville Civic Center.  Please consider attending this important event to share your vision for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.  The Village is currently undertaking a collaborative process with community residents and stakeholders to update the plan.  The plan outlines important policies and strategies related to land use and development, downtown, infrastructure and capital improvements, housing and neighborhoods, open spaces and natural resources, transportation, historic preservation, quality of life, and community sustainability and resiliency.

The process for developing the Comprehensive Plan provides a unique opportunity for community residents and stakeholders to participate in the planning process and communicate their ideas regarding Libertyville's future.  To learn more click here (

Payment Card Interchange Fee Settlement for Merchants

A local business owner asked that this information be shared with other businesses in the Village. A proposed settlement has been preliminary approved by the US District Court in the maximum amount of approximately $6.24 billion and a minimum of at least $5.54 billion in a class action lawsuit, called In re Payment Card Interchange Fee and Merchant Discount Antitrust Litigation. The lawsuit is related to claims that merchants paid excessive fees to accept Visa and Mastercard cards because Visa and Mastercard, individually, and together with their respective member banks, violated antitrust laws. Merchants that accepted Visa and Mastercard at any time since January 1, 2004 should visit to learn more about your rights and options in the case.
