Sandbag Efforts

Storm Recovery Follow-up

At the July 25th Village Board meeting Mayor Weppler updated the public regarding the July 12th rain storm. The storm produced over 7 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately the capacity of most stormwater systems cannot handle this volume of rain, in a short amount of time which led to flooding throughout the Village. The Fire Department responded to approximately 160 calls during this storm. It was a challenging event, however neighbors assisted one another, and volunteers helped sandbag creating a great sense of community. The Village is working with Lake County EMA and the State of Illinois EMA to apply for FEMA assistance. Unfortunately, the FEMA assistance may be in the form of low-interest loans and my be income-based assistance only. As soon as any assistance becomes available through FEMA, Lake County and the Village will work together provide the required information to residents. Town Hall Meeting-September 13, 2017

Mayor Weppler and the Village Board invite you to a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, September 13^th at the Libertyville Civic Center, located at 135 W Church Street. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM and will be preceded by a storm water open house from 4:00-7:00 PM. This meeting is intended for discussion of flooding issues, what residents can do to prevent damage in the future, and future capital improvements that may assist with storm water management in the Village.

Waiver of Permit Fees Related to Storm

At the July 25th Village Board Meeting, an Ordinance was approved waiving permit fees related to the July 12th storm. If applying for a permit related to repairs or replacement of damaged property, please let the Building Division know that it is related to the storm.

Used Sandbag Pick-up

The Village will be collecting sandbags from Sandstone Drive, Kenwood Avenue, Riverside Drive, Appley Avenue and Oak Trail Drive. Public Works staff will pick-up sandbags between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31^st and Tuesday, August 1^st. Please place sandbags at the end of your driveway no later than 7 a.m. on July 31^st. If your sandbags are not picked up, contact Public Works at 847-362-3434 to make arrangements.

Adopt-a-Park Program

One of the goals of the Sustain Libertyville Commission is to establish an Adopt-a-Park program. This program is similar to the current Adopt-a-Highway program but allows a community group or neighborhood to adopt a park. This typically entails a clean-up in Spring or Fall.
