The Rockland Road Bridge over the Des Plaines river was closed at approximately 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 1st. Please use Route 176 as the alternate east/west route. The re-open date is not yet determined.
Following a recent inspection, the existing steel truss system has been determined to have significant levels of deterioration that will require immediate action. As a result, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has recommended that the bridge be closed immediately until emergency repair work is completed.
The closure of the bridge is occurring in order to ensure public safety. During this period, signage will be provided for alternate detour routes. Motorists will be directed to utilize IL Route 176 (E. Park Avenue) for crossing the Des Plaines river.
Please note, the effected portion of the steel truss is not integral to the structural stability of the bridge and is predominantly decorative. Therefore, it is anticipated that the bridge will be reopened upon completion of the truss removal.
The bridge will be reconstructed as soon as possible. The bridge reconstruction will be funded with by Federal grants with local investment match funding from Libertyville Township and the Village of Libertyville.
The Village appreciates your patience during this important repair. Please visit www.libertyville.com for more information.
