General Information
The band is comprised of members from Libertyville, surrounding communities, and a few from adjacent counties. It is primarily an adult band, but high school players are welcome to play at the discretion of the band director. There is no audition to join the band, but the director reserves the right to decide which part each player is assigned and will advise if a player is not yet ready to participate.Instruments
The band owns a bass drum but all other players must provide their own instruments and ensure that they are in good working order and capable of playing in tune. Please bring a music stand to each concert. The band does not use electric instruments, keyboard instruments, or strings (including electric bass, string bass and guitar).Instrumentation includes:
Woodwinds: piccolo, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophones, and bassoon
Brass: trumpet, cornet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, and tuba
Percussion: snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and xylophone
Uniform
The band uniform is long black pants or conservative black skirt with a short sleeve red polo shirt. For new members planning to commit to playing the entire season, the band will provide the polo shirt with the band logo free of charge as a thank you for your participation. All members must wear closed-toe black shoes (sandals, flip-flops and very casual shoes are not acceptable). Most players wear black dress shoes or black tennis shoes.Rehearsals
2026 Rehearsal dates are on Monday June 15, 22, 29 and July 13, 20, 27 and on Thursday, June 18, and July 2, in the Libertyville High School band room. All players are expected to attend rehearsals and concerts and arrive on time. Please advise the director in advance if it is necessary to miss a rehearsal or concert. Attendance for all season concerts is desirable.Performance Dates
Thursdays, June 25, July 9, 16, 23 and 30th at 7:30 p.m. in Cook Park and Saturday, July 4th at Butler Lake Park.Concerts take place at the Rose Garden in front of the Cook Mansion in Cook Park which is located on the west side of Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 21) between Church and Cook streets. The special concert on July 4th takes place at the Butler Lake Park located on the north side of Lake St. about 1/3 mile west of Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 21). For the July 4th concert, the fireworks begin at the same location following the concert.
There is no consistent alternate location in the event of inclement weather. Concerts are presumed to occur regardless of weather reports. On the rare occasion that a concert is canceled, it is typically 30 minutes prior to start time. If it is raining but stops shortly before the start time, the show will go on. If the weather changes for the worse during a concert, the show will end early. For concerts scheduled for Cook Park, in most cases the Civic Center across the street will be able to host the concert indoors; look for a large white sandwich board in the center of Cook Park that directs the audience to cross the street to the Civic Center.
